Super Sunday
A big thanks to everyone involved in Super Sunday, including Coombe Dingle Staff, for marking out extra pitches, the Mall at Cribbs Causeway and Globe Sports. Also thanks to everyone who turned up to support the club. It was great to see representatives there from every year group. The U14s for won 4:1 against Swindon Spitfires. Swindon are a well established club, and this was the U14s first game in Division 1, and their first competitive league game of 11-a-side football. They played really well and were worthy winners. Well done to John and the girls. Performance of the day probably goes to the U12 Cs. What a difference a year makes. Last season the U12s Cs did not win a game. This season they started their season with a 12-0 victory over a developing Ashton Girls B's squad. Was it the fantastic new shirts - or is just the more te girls play, the better they get? The U11s put up a spirited performance against St. Nicks. St. Nicks are particularly strong in this age group, so it was always going to be a tough start to the season. It was the best I have seen the U11s play - and if they continue in that vein they are sure to have an enjoyable season. The BLUFC U12s A & B squads had a mouth-watering opener against AEK BOCO A & B squads. Last year AEK BOCO A walked away with the Division 1 title, winning 14 out of 14, while AEK BOCO B finished a close second to our U12s for the Division 2 title. On this occassion, AEK BOCO took the spoils in both matches - but some great football was played by both BLUFC teams - and their first league wins will surely not be far away on this form. Radio Bristol interviewed Peter Root (chair), Debbie (vice chair) and Ellie & Rosanna (from the U10s). The official photographer got some great shots. We hope some of the pictures will be included in a feature in the Evening Post - probably on Thursday or Friday; In the mean time - click here to see a selection . Chairman's Newsletter Click here to read the Chairman's start of season newsletter. Club Launch #1 Launch event #1 is provisionally scheduled for 10:30am to 12:30am on 7th September (aka Super Sunday) - more details to follow. Most of the Junior teams will be playing at home, so please come along and show your support. Club Launch #2 Launch event #2 is will be to take part in the Annual Bristol Sports Jam - from 11am til 4pm on 13th September at Millenium Square. GWR will be there. and BLUFC will have a stand (volunteers are required - please contact Darrell Hawkes for more info). See the Access Sport website for more details. Imogen Cotter to sign for Man Utd? Imogen Cotter (from the U9s) was selected from a mixed group of boys and girls who attended the recent Man Utd Soccer School at Coombe Dingle to an 'invitation only' training session at Old Trafford. One player per age group was selected, so congratulations to Imogen on a tremendous achievement. BLUFC - a top club with top coaches Congratulations to Robbie Fox on passing his FA Level 2 coaching badge. Check out the new kit for 2008/09
News from the 2007-08 Season(before the club was formed) U13s win BGL Division 2 Championship What a difference a season makes. Last season the team finished bottom of the table and were awarded the Fair Play Award for not giving up and playing with a smile on their faces. A year on and they have already clinched the Division 2 title with an undefeated record and two games to spare. U11s win BGL Division 2 Championship The U11s have had a great first season in league football, and have clinched the Dvision 2 title with an undefeated record. U9s win Frampton Rangers U10s Tournament The U9s did fantastically well to win the Frampton Rangers U10s Tournament. They played Frampton Rangers in the final. It was a great match, with both teams committed to passing the ball and playing attacking football. The match finished 1-1, with the U9s winning on penalties. U9s finish runners up at Portishead U9s Tournament The U9s beat Portishead, AEK BOCO B, & Brislington setting up a mouth watering final against AEK BOCO. The U9s probably edged possesson and territory, but AEK BOCO hit on the break to score a well worked goal and win the game 1-0. |
