Match Reports
BLU Belles vs TC Juniors u10 Sunday 15-01-2012:
Match Report by Alice and Laura. Jack Frost stayed away so the match was on against our old rivals TC Girls. We had to play really well because TC Girls were tough opposition. In the first half Anna played in goal and had to make a few saves. Eleanor and Lola were immense in defence. There were some very good passes up the wing. Laura had a searching cross from which lola did an amazing shot that the goalie did well to save. Mia had a very good shot as well. Lola played in goal in the second half and did really well with the sun in her eyes. Alice H. (skipper), Mia, Caoimhe and Naimh , Rhianna, Emili and Laura played from defence to midfield to attack. There were some very good runs down the pich. Laura had a power full shot the goalie did a very good clearence. The team came back very strongly. Mia scored the equaliser after TC Girls took the lead and was running onto the TC goal when the final whistle blew! The final scora was 1-1. Jokes: Q. Why did the football player take a rope onto the pitch? Because she was a skipper! Ha Ha
Coach Comment What a great fight back to earn a point, that keeps the Belles in the close race for the top of the league. Both our keepers played well, getting down bravely to collect the ball in a crowded penalty area. I saw some great passes that opened up the TC defence (we need more of these passes) I particularly remember Naimhs, Mias and Lauras passes. I used 8 different players in defence and there were strong performances from Lola, Rhianna, Anna and especially Eleanor, whos excellent second half earned her the Girl of the Game trophy. Mias equaliser puts her into double figures for the season so far, and in with a good chance of the BLUFC Golden Boot award.
BLU Belles vs BLU Birds u10s 8th Jan 2012:
Match Report by Caoimhe & Niamh. Our first match of the new year was definitely one to remember. All of the team returned from the Christmas break full of mince pies and ready for action! The game was very competitive with both teams struggling to get possession of the ball. Laura was forced to make a number of good saves throughout the first half whilst Anna and Connie battled away to control the midfield. Rhianna and Alice R were fantastic at the back and managed to stop the Birds having any shots at goal with some excellent tackling. Caoimhe, Finnola, Alice H and Mia battled away up front causing all sorts of problems for the Birds defence. Just before half time Niamh and Mia managed to play a 1-2 and 3-4 on the edge of the box before Mia fired a right foot volley high into the roof of the net giving the keeper no chance. Everyone was ecstatic! Mia became our goalkeeper for the second half and again had to stop a number of shots as the Birds tried hard to score. Laura and Finnola went into defence along with Alice R in the second half and did a great job stopping the Birds attack. Rhianna, Anna and Alice H changed to attack and created several chances up front. Despite all the Birds pressure we managed to hold on to our one goal lead. It was a great effort by everyone, well done! Jokes: Q. Why couldnt the centipede ever play in the the 1st half of the insect football match? - Cos he was too busy tying his boot laces!
Coach Comment What a great team effort again, thats 6 wins on the trott; and also our third game in a row with a clean sheet, so well done to our defence and keepers. The win puts us only 1 point behind the BLU Birds in the league. I saw a few tired legs in the game, we might need to work on our fitness a bit in training (perhaps to much chocolate was munched over Chistmas in front of the telly!) We can also try to let the ball do more of the work for us with (yes, you guessed it) more passing. There were also nervous moments in the last 5 minutes, when we defended too deep back towards our own goal. You see even the top premiership teams do this in the closing stages of a tight local derby. Away BLU Belles vs Longwell Green u10s 11th December 2011:
Match Report by Mia. Wow, what a match!! Everyone played extremely well from goalkeeper to attack. It was a very nerve-racking game to start off with, playing the team at the top of the league (Longwell Green), but we swam through it winning it 6-0!! It didnt help that their pitch had so much mud. The mud was on the pitch, the ball and in our studs. In the 1st half we had some really good passes and some amazing tackling going on but the thing I thought was the best was the dodging around players, looking for space and looking up before we passed. We had 2 very early goals from Finnola. They were powerful, she looked up first and there was no way the goalkeeper could have stopped them. Connie, Emili and Alice H did some really good passes and tackles, really going for it. In midfield Laura, Riannah and I were passing the ball between us and had some very good chances at goal. Laura also scored 2 amazing goals, giving it as much as she could to get it into the net. I had a few shots and scored 1 out of them. In defence Eleanor and Lola did outstandingly well kicking it up the pitch and both of them were always back there ready when they needed to be as the LWG team came charging up with the ball. Alice R in goal did some unbelievably good saves, running out to pick up the ball. At the end of the 1st half it was 5-0 to us. In the 2nd half everyone was trying to defend the amazing lead we had. We were tackling, passing, defending but then Finnola scored another incredible goal. She had scored a hat trick!! Well done Finnola!! Alice R did a long run up the pitch, dodging everyone in her way and was unlucky not to score a goal especially as she was a defender. Eleanor had some amazing saves as she was in goal and tried her best to keep a clean sheet which her and Alice R both did successfully. The Final score was 6-0. Jokes: Q. Why didnt the dog want to play football? A. Because he was a boxer!
Coach Comment What a fantastic team performance, thats FIVE wins on the bounce. You could really see everyone playing for each other in todays game, lots of great passing in tricky conditions. Highlights were Finnolas well deserved hat-trick, Lauras brace (first tucked in with the right foot, second smashed in off the post with the left foot), strong performances from Lola and Riannah (I lost count of the number of tackles Riannah put in and she always seemed to be in just the right place on the pitch). Another clean (if a little muddy!) sheet was down to a well organised defence Eleanor/Lola, Alice H./Connie in the first, and Alice R./Rhianna & Laura in the second half; in fact I cant remember a single solid LWG shot that really troubled our goalies Alice R. and Eleanor. Our mid-field worked hard up and down the pitch, mentions for Emili, Connie and Alice H. and especially Mia, who all covered alot of sticky ground. Mia was well rewarded with a goal on the second attempt after following her first shot in (good learning point for everyone there). Finally it was great to see Alice R., finding space in front of her at the half way line, driving up the pitch and almost scoring in a very crowded box. Our win puts Andys BLU Birds top of the league (expect thanks from your squad mates at training on Tues), and the Belles remain in third place but close the gap on LWG to only 2 points. WELL DONE again.
Home BLU Belles vs Bradley Stoke u10s 4th December 2011:
Match Report from Caoimhe and Niamh. It was an excellent match. Bradley Stoke beat us the last time (1-0) so it was important for us to win this home game. Connie was in goal first half and came out to the edge of her box a few times to gather the ball and to prevent BS from scoring. Finnola had some really good shots in the first half which were saved by the BS goalie. Rhianna, Lola, Caoimhe and Connie put in some crunching tackles to stop BS going forward and were involved in some clever passing moves in midfield. Anna, Laura and Niamh connected very well upfront and had several good runs. These really paid off in the second half when Laura ran from the half way line and dribbled past 3 BS players to fire a 12 yard rocket past the BS goalie. What a goaaaaaaaal !! Eleanor and Alice were terrific at the back in the second half and no one was able to get past them. This meant that BS had to shoot from distance but their shots were well saved by Finnola who was excellent in goal. Nick did an excellent job refereeing and stand in coach Johns (Lolas Dad) tactics worked to produce a well deserved win. Jokes: How do footballers stay cool? They stand next to their fans !! Why was Cinderella no good at football? Because she had a pumpkin as a coach !!
Coach Comment Yet another win, thats 4 on the roll. Great to see Laura finally break her duck with a real ripper after a mazey run up the left wing that left the BS keeper plucking the ball from the back of the net. Another highlight was Finnolas stupendous double save to the BS striker Katey that kept our 1-0 lead with just a few minutes left on the clock. Another clean sheet was testament to more great team work in defence, from Rhianna, Lola, Eleanor and Alice R., who took a knock in the 1st half and had to come off, but then came back in the second half stronger and more determined, going shoulder to shoulder in some great battles with the BS strikers. Something to work on in training on Tuesday is controlling the bouncing ball, with good goalie clearance kicks from the hand from both sets of keepers, the girls need to head or chest the ball down to get it under control at their feet. Also a big thanks to John W. for running the team from the sidelines.
Away BLU Belles vs AEK BOKO 27th November 2011:
Match Report from Anna. In the first half we managed to score twice without conceding ourselves. Mia scored the first goal (0-1) by booting it into the back of the net with her left foot, which was great because shes right footed. And the second goal was scored by Emili W (0-2) who booted the ball from the edge of the penalty area. We were playing into the wind and the sun on our backs. We had some close shots from Laura in the second half. Unfortunately, we let one goal in to make the final score (1-2) to us. We all worked really hard and this was a good team effort.
Coach Comment Well played to all the girls in todays tight 1-2 away win against a resurgent BOKO, considering we won 8-0 at home. The BOKO defence was much more organised and difficult to break down, and the BOKO keeper pulled off several great saves to keep them in the game. Our mid-field had to work very hard getting up the heavy pitch to attack and then back to defend. I used 7 different players in mid-field for 10 minute bursts and everyone put a lot of effort in, especially Alice H., Eleanor and Lola. In the 1st half I noted good sideways passes from Emili to Mia and vice-versa around the edge of the box, and both girls were rewarded with goals. In the 2nd half I couldnt believe we failed to score given the pressure we exerted around the BOKO penalty area. Lola came very close on the left post, Anna had a chance saved off the line, and Mia and Laura linked up well in several moves but just couldnt finish off. Plenty to work on in training; more passing, tracking backwards keeping an eye on play, and first time shooting.
Home BLU FC YELLOWS vs LONGWELL GREEN Sunday 20th November:
Match Report by Phoebe Neville. It was a tense morning because the last match we played we unfortunately lost to the BLU FC REDS, so we knew we had to win and luckily we did just that.... We had kick-off for the first half. We got quickly into the game with Alicia in goal, Sydney and Katherine in defence, Jess,Holly and Catherine in midfield and Abi up in attack. Longwell Green are a strong side and top of the league when we started the game, but we held possession well with good passing and strong tackling. Within the first ten minutes, Holly did some amazing dribbling and just managed to cross the ball in the box and Abi booted it in the back of the net!!!!!!!!!:) 1-0 to the Blues! Just before the half time whistle blew, Zoe did an amazing break through and passed the ball into the box and Longwell Greens goal keeper picked up the ball but then dropped it and, unfortunately for them, Holly tapped it passed the goal line! 2-0 to us!! In the second half both teams had chances of scoring, especially by Maddie and Holly, but a mixture of bad luck and good defending meant that nobody scored, so when the full time whistle blew, we had won 2-0!!!!!
Home BLU Belles vs TC Juniors 20th November 2011:
Match Report from Eleanor & Alice R. What an amazing match! 2 nil against TC juniors! The girls played brilliantly. In the first half Naimh scored an amazing goal. She broke through the TC defence and sprinted towards the keeper and then smashed the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal. The second goal was scored by Mia and what a tremendous goal it was! She ran with the ball from the halfway line on the right wing and crossed it into the goal. Lola and Alice R were awesome in defence - a formidable combination. Alice H and Mia were spectacular in goal and kept a clean sheet. They were always alert and ready to defend their goal. Caoimhe and Connie kept hold of the ball and never lost possession. They both worked brilliantly well up front. Emili did fantastically in mid field and very nearly scored but her shot was brilliantly saved by the TIC keeper. Well done everybody - see you on Tuesday. Love Alice and Eleanor Joke - What do you call the coach with no pants? Nickerlass.
Coach Comment Great game again today a real team effort. Another clean sheet from Mia and Alice H. in goal, good confident saves and goal kick distribution. I thought Lola was excellent in defence, she took a knock and was winded in the 1st half, then came out stronger in 2nd putting in several good clearance kicks. I remember good shots from Emili and Connie just passed the left post before Naimh tucked a shot in the back of the net. We could have gone in a half time 3 up. I mixed the defence up though the game and all the pairings worked very well together, mainly anchored by Alice R, who again had a solid game. Released by a good pass from Connie, Mias run from halfway and shot low to right was a fantastic solo effort. Caoimhe also had a good chance towards the end but the TC defender just got back in time. We still need to work on those mid field passes to release the free player.
Home BLU Belles vs BLU u10 Birds (Yellow) 13th November 2011:
Match Report from our mid-field maestro Mia
Today our match against the BLU Birds was really hard but we won 2-1. The first half went really well as we were tackling the ball off the Birds and finding spaces for players to pass too. Connie and Caoimhe were looking for spaces and Anna who was in goal did a great job. At half time the score was 0-0. The second half was even harder as they scored an unstoppable goal in the first ten minutes but we didn’t give up and came back stronger and more determined. As the game went along Alice R who was now in goal made some fantastic saves and Laura defended well by kicking the ball far up the pitch. Then I passed the ball to Finnola who scored a great goal and we were level. Alice H, Eleanor, our captain and Niamh were very good in midfield as they were ready to take the challenges the BLU Birds made. When the ball was in their half of the pitch everyone was going for the ball and Anna found a space to shoot and scored, making the score 2-1. We had four minutes to go trying to defend and because we didnt give up and worked as a team we won the match. Following on with Connies tradition..... Q. Why are football players never asked for dinner? A. Because theyre always dribbling! from Mia
Coach comment
What a great game; a real whole team effort to come back from 0-1 down to win 2-1. Almost too many good points to mention but Ill have a go. Alice R. and Eleanor/Connie were solid in defence in the 1st half, and I think Anna only had to make a couple of saves. Laura, Finnola and Alice H. had close chances in the 1st half. In the 2nd half I was very impressed with Lauras work in defence clearing the ball from deep and she was well supported by Niamh and Caoimhe. Finnolas strike in the top left corner was a great first goal. Anna came out of goal in the 2nd half and worked very hard up and down the pitch and was in the right place in the box to poach the 2nd. Mia and Alice H. worked well together in mid-field, and got back to cover the defence. Alice R. kept well in the 2nd half with some great saves, keeping us in the game. It was good to see 2 or 3 passes being strung together, but we still need to work on not bunching around the ball. Special thanks to Mike (Zoes Dad) for organising Andys team in this morning match. Also special thanks to John Russell for reffereeing the match, and for keeping his yellow card in his pocket! Thanks Nick

I thought this was a good game that was closer than the 0-3 scoreline suggests. We had good chances to score from Laura, Finnola (we need to work on that final touch) and Caoimhe, whose firm shot just missed on the right hand side. The LWG keeper was very brave at coming out and gathering the ball in her box, difficult to beat. Eleanor in goal in the 1st half, had a nervous start, but kept well after that and pulled off a couple of great saves to keep us in the game at HT, and I was glan to see at one point dribbed the ball back in to her area in order to pick it up (good learning point from a mistake made in an early season match). Rhianna had a solid game, Alice passed well in mid field, and Anna played well up front. We need to work on final touch before shooting, and more passing to create space and prevent us from bunching. Thanks Nick

A very close friendly game against Bradley Stoke, which we narrowly lost; but there will be another friendly against BS in a months time. I remember two good chances we had, Finnolas shot in the 1st half that hit the left post, and Connies effort in the 2nd that just missed the right post. The Bradley Stoke goal was very well taken, in fact their blonde girl who scored was probably the best u10 player Ive seen in the league so far. We tended to bunch a little to much; we will work on longer passes at Tuesday training. Thanks Nick

Well played to all the girls in todays 8-0 win. You could really see improvement in their passing game, heads up looking for a team mate. Lots of goals, Mia 2, Alice R. 2, Lola 1, Eleanor 1, and Connie 2. Plus a couple of close chances from Finnola, caught by the keeper trying to dribble the ball into the net. Of note a couple of surging runs up the left wing by Laura in the first half, before she was injured in a crunching tackle. Also mazey runs from Mia up the right; with wingers like this we could probably move to a 2, 3, 2 formation but Im probably getting ahead of myself. Our goalies Alice H and Laura did not have much to do, but it was good to see them coming right to the edge of their areas to collect the ball. Boko are a determined side and I hope their u8 & u9 combined team keep going for the whole season, and do not get too disheartened, they have been suffering a few heavy defeats in this u10 league. Thanks Nick
Away BLU Belles at TC Girls Juniors 9th October 2011:
Match report by Connie
Our match against TC Girls was a tough game the final score was 1-0 to TC Girls. We were good in attack and defence. In the first half Eleanor was in goal and did some amazing saves. Finnola had some great shots and some crunching tackles not to mention her header. At the end of the first half Alice was unlucky when her curling strike just missed the post. Unfortunately I accidently conceded a penalty when the ball smacked into my face and TC Girls hit the back of the net. Everyone gave their best performance yet... Rhianna was strong in defence keeping TC out of the box.Naimh had a confident game in midfield passing well, Caoimhe did some positive tackling and Mia had some good attacking runs down the wing.Emili was goalie in the second half and had many goal kicks to do! Connie xxxxx
Joke - What position did the railings play in the match? In de-fence! ....and also a joke received from Mia ....How did the footbal pitch end up as triangle ?Somebody took a corner !
Coaches Comments
Well done to all the girls another very tight game, which all came down to another unlucky penalty (self-preservation from Connie) I am sure our luck will change. Finnola played well in her first outing for the team, with a great header from that defensive corner. I thought Alice and Rhianna were solid in defence, and our 2 goalies Eleanor and Emili both made vital saves. I saw good tackles and nice touches from both from Naimh and Caoimhe. Lots to work in training, more passing and making the passes count; crossing and shooting (a couple of corners by Mia when clean through the box), controlling a bouncing ball.
Thanks, Nick
Away BLU Belles at LWG 25th September 2011:
Match report by Connie
The sun came out just in time for kick-off at Longwell Green, and it got very hot running around. We did well to defend our goal in the first half and were only 1-0 down at half-time. Then Mia scored a whopping two goals to put us in the lead at 1-2. There was an unluckly penalty decision, when the ball bounced up at Anna. LWG scored a couple of goals towards the end of the match and unfortunately we lost 4-2; but we enjoyed a close game and I am looking forward to playing them again.
Connie Joke - Why can cars not play football? Cos they have only got one boot!
